My journey learning Google Cloud Platform
In 2021 I have decided to concentrate some of my learning efforts on the three famous cloud services platforms: AWS, Azure and GCP.
To start my journey I worked on earning my Azure AZ-900 and my AWS Certified Cloud Professional certifications.
In 2022 I want to expand my knowledge regarding Azure and AWS and also learn about GCP.
In this article I want to document the key resources that I really enjoyed while learning GCP.
Hands-on Labs
Qwiklabs
The Qwiklabs platform hosts many self-paced labs to learn GCP.
Qwiklabs was an independent organization that was later bought by Google. Therefore it is now only dedicated to provide GCP related labs. I wish they continued providing Azure and AWS related content but we can’t expect from Google to do that ;-)
Usually such platforms that provide cloud self-paced labs require a costly monthly or yearly subscription. While Qwiklabs also offers such a scheme, they also allow you to buy only credits. When you want to run a lab and access its environment you therefore can consume the amount of credits needed.
This is great because I can consume credits at my own pace and pick the learning paths that make the most sense for me. I wish similar platforms like Whizlabs and Cloud Academy offered such a credit based system.
Getting back to Qwiklabs I’ve started to learn by trying to complete the below two learning paths (they are called Quests) and I am really eager to earn my badges of completion.
Books
The Cloud Girl has been creating very cool GCP infographics on her website. She recently compiled all those infographics in a very nice book that I’ve pre-ordered on Amazon.
Final Thoughts
I will regularly be updating this article as I progress on my journey on learning GCP using Qwiklabs. Until then I wish you happy GCP learning…
